The month of March has proved to be a rainy month for the hills of North India. The hills of North India have been witnessing rains since the beginning of the month that continued in Jammu and Kashmir until the last 24 hours as well. All thanks to the Western Disturbance that affected the Western Himalayan region.

However, these rains took a backseat over the state of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as they failed to record any rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Qazigund and Batote recorded 0.6 mm and 0.2 mm of rains respectively.

As per Skymet Weather, now a fresh Western Disturbance can be seen over Jammu and Kashmir. In the wake of this, scattered light to moderate rain and snow is likely to continue over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Uttarakhand may also witness some light rains.

However, this weather system is not active, thus, by tomorrow the intensity of these rains is expected to start reducing thereby leading to dry and clear weather.

Usually, the Western Disturbances start traveling in lower latitude over the Western Himalayas between November and February. Sometimes these weather systems continue in the month of March as well but gradually, they start shifting to upper latitudes.

This year, Western Disturbances commenced slightly late and during the month of February, we saw good amount of snowfall and rainfall activities. As of now, the frequency of Western Disturbances is expected to continue throughout the month of March. In fact, the next active Western Disturbance is expected around March 13 that would give good amount of rain and snow over the hills of North India until March 15-16.

The month of March would continue to witness good rain and snow over Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir which is a good indicator. This is because these rain and snow activities would feed water to increase the water flow in rivers that originates from Western Himalayas.
