Monsoon in Kerala

The Monsoon surge has been playing actively along the West Coast which has been recording moderate to heavy with extremely heavy rains from the last few days. The intensity of rains along the West Coastal regions of the country can be made out of the fact that a few regions have even recorded a three-digit rainfall in the last couple of days.

The last 24 hours were also good for the West Coast. Particularly, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka have recorded exceptionally good showers. However, regions in Coastal Kerala and Gujarat coast had to settle with moderate rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am, Agumbe recorded a whopping 101 mm of rain, followed by Mumbai where 93.2 mm of rain was witnessed.

Other areas to have received good rains include Vengurla 60.8 mm, Mangalore 53 mm, Mahabaleshwar 47.4 mm, Dahanu 41.8 mm, Okha 28 mm and Porbandar recorded 22 mm of rains.

As per weathermen at Skymet, the offshore trough from South Gujarat to Kerala is still active but is likely to weaken after 24 hours. Thus, the rain intensity over South Coastal Gujarat and Konkan & Goa is expected to reduce and mainly moderate rain with isolated heavy showers are expected over this region.

However, mainly moderate rain with a few light showers will continue over Kerala and Karnataka coast.
