Rainy weather expected in North, East and South India in next 24 hours

January 17, 2014 3:50 PM |

A Western Disturbance as a trough lying over central Pakistan will move in the north east direction and would bring light rain and snow over Jammu & Kashmir. Parts of Himachal Pradesh will also receive some amounts of precipitation by tonight.

This Western Disturbance has induced a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Rajasthan. Trough from this system is extending up to South Punjab. It will bring rain over parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will also get rain at many places by Friday night. The rain belt will shift eastwards and bring light rain over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas by tomorrow afternoon.

Weather in East India

Cloud cover and foggy weather had kept the day temperatures much below normal in Uttar Pradesh, northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and parts of Bihar. As fog in East India cleared up to a large extent today morning, maximums are likely to increase but will drop again in view of rainfall. Day temperatures have already risen in Bihar. In Patna maximum temperature shot up from 14.8°C on Wednesday to 21°C the next day. Similarly, in Gaya and Bhagalpur as well temperatures rose from 15°C to 21°C on Thursday.

Weather in South India

As predicted earlier, the clouds built up in the Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area will bring isolated to scattered rain over south interior Karnataka, adjoining Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next two days. Nevertheless, there will be no respite from heat and maximums will continue to be in the mid-thirties. Rain over these regions will not be beneficial in bringing a significant drop in maximum temperatures either. On the contrary, day temperatures in south Karnataka and Kerala will rise marginally as the cloud cover dissipates after 24 hours. Weather in Kerala has been dry since the last few weeks but the month of February could be rainy in this state.
