Weather forecast for the week in India from December 29, 2014 to January 4, 2015

Snowfall in Jammu and KashmirJammu and Kashmir will be witnessing snowfall, as two western disturbances are approaching North India. While, system in Bay of Bengal will give rain over entire east coast of India.

Down south, this week will see the completion of Northeast Monsoon, post which southern peninsular region will witness mostly dry spell for next few days.

Here’s a look at the weather forecast for the week across the country:

Weather in North India

This week, two Western Disturbances are likely to affect North India. The first system will be a feeble one and is expected to approach Jammu and Kashmir by December 31, giving snowfall only in the higher reaches. While, the second one will be affecting the region by weekend, December 3 and 4, which will bring snow and rain over middle and lower reaches of Jammu and Kashmir as well, extending up to parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In view of the systems, parts of Punjab and Haryana will observe partly cloudy sky but will not receive any rain.

Foggy and cold conditions will continue to prevail over plains of North India, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan.

Weather in Central India

First half of the week will witness both maximum and minimum temperatures settling around normal, barring Marathwada and Vidarbha that are witnessing cold wave conditions. Day temperatures will be around mid 20s and night temperature in double digits below 20°C.

Meanwhile by December 31, light rain is expected over parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh due to a cyclonic system prevailing in the southwest Bay of Bengal. This will lead to change in wind pattern and as a result, the cold wave conditions will abate over Marathwada and Vidarbha region.

Weather in East and Northeast India

Dense fog envelope will continue to engulf Bihar, Jharkhand and several parts of northeastern states, that too for extended duration. Meanwhile, the system in Bay of Bengal, which has been moving along the east coast, is expected to give rain over the coastal areas West Bengal and Odisha.

Weather in South India

This week will see the completion of the Northeast Monsoon, which started in October.

After giving isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and adjoining region, the system in Bay of Bengal will move northeastwards, shifting rains to coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh and east coast. Post this, Tamil Nadu will witness mostly dry weather conditions, as rains will take a back seat for this week. Maximum temperatures which have been settling in mid 20s, will crawl back to normal.

Meanwhile, Kerala which has been witnessing high maximum temperatures, will also see a drop.
