The Indo-Gangetic Plain is also termed as the Indus-Ganga and the North Indian River Plain. It is a huge stretch of several million hectares of fertile plain, comprising most parts of North and East India. The eastern parts of Pakistan and most parts of Bangladesh also come under the Indo-Gangetic Plains.
At present, Monsoon seems to be gaining strength along this fertile plain region.
A cyclonic circulation persists over Punjab and adjoining areas. We can see a trough extending from this system up to Northwest Bay of Bengal across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the low pressure area over North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand region. The trough is likely to shift slightly southwards and may move across Delhi region.
Monsoon seems to be vigorous along the foothills of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam.
During last 24 hours, Ludhiana recorded 73 mm of rainfall and Patiala 52 mm.
Places to receive good showers during next 24 to 48 hours will most probably include Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Bhatinda, Patiala and Amritsar in Punjab. In Haryana, Ambala, Panipat and Faridabad will receive moderate Monsoon rains. Delhi and Jaipur will receive good rains as well.
The places lying in the foothills of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh could also receive heavy to moderate showers. Monsoon will gradually gain strength in several cities of West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam.
