Kolkata Rains

Kolkata has been receiving good rains throughout September so far. There were some occasions in the month where the City of Joy observed extremely heavy rainfall.

At present, a low-pressure area can be seen over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas. Moreover, moderate humid winds are pouring moisture over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata. Hence, scattered rainfall activities are likely over the region.

Other districts have also witnessed light to moderate showers during the last 24 hours, wherein Malda received 70 mm of good Monsoon showers, followed by Digha 40 mm and Bankura 27.4 mm.

These Monsoon rains are expected to continue for at least 24-48 hours. While the rains will be scattered in nature over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata, the possibility of a few light with isolated moderate rainy spells cannot be ruled out over the other districts.

Since the beginning of the season, Kolkata has received 1255.3 mm of rainfall, against the normal of 1178 mm. This takes the surplus rainfall figures to about 7%.

The state of West Bengal has also received normal rains so far this season with Gangetic West Bengal receiving 2% more rains than normal. But the subdivision of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim is still experiencing 4% deficient rainfall for the Monsoon season.
