Day and night temperatures in most parts of northwest, Indo-Gangetic plains and Central India continued to remain below normal on Tuesday. However, Jammu & Kashmir and some parts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed above normal day temperatures.
Hisar and Karnal in Haryana, Agra, Kanpur Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Chapra and Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh continued to witness below normal temperatures in the last 24 hours. According to our forecast these temperatures would maintain during the next two days, due to the continuation of northwesterly winds.
However, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, parts of Punjab and west Rajasthan experienced rise in both day and night temperatures during the last 24 hours. Night temperature in Amritsar jumped to 7.8°C on Wednesday after recording 1°C on Tuesday. Srinagar recorded a minumum of 1.5°C on Wednesday while, minimums in Bikaner and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan settle above the normal average on Wednesday. Kullu, Manali and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh also saw maximum settling five notches above normal.
Day temperatures in Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam were above normal by five notches on Tuesday but a drop is expected from Thursday onwards in Jammu & Kashmir due to the expected cloud cover from the Western Disturbance lying over Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining areas of north Pakistan. This Western Disturbance will be followed up by another one from Friday onwards.
Weather in South India over Kerala and Tamil Nadu will be partly cloudy to cloudy and there would more chances of rain in coastal areas of these states. Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Thiruvanathapuram in Kerala recorded some rain during the last 24 hours. Our meteorologists explain that in this season when temperature rises in South India and remain in early thirties, moisture incursion from the seas from both sides of the Peninsula could make conditions favourable for isolated rain.
