Heavy Rainfall Over Rajasthan: Flooding Rains Over South Rajasthan On Weekend
The state of Rajasthan had a prolonged lull in monsoon activity, more noticeable in the second week and extending into the start of the third week. This dry spell is likely to break, with heavy rains expected to lash many parts of the state this week. The intense weather activity will spill over into next week as well, at least until midweek. The end of the month will see mild weather activity across most parts of the state.
A cyclonic circulation is currently present over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan. Another circulation exists over the northeast Arabian Sea and Gujarat region. Under the combined influence of these two systems, strong monsoon activity is likely over east and south Rajasthan initially, with expansion to the rest of the state in subsequent days.
A monsoon system is developing over the Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area will form on 25th August and move inland across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The system will reach the eastern parts of Rajasthan and interact with the existing circulation. This joint effect will trigger widespread rain over large parts of the state, with the eastern half and southern pockets receiving a larger share over the coming week.
Heavy rains will affect east Rajasthan on 21st and 22nd August, while intense rainfall is expected to extend into extreme south Rajasthan on 23rd and 24th August. Localized flooding and waterlogging are possible due to strong and continuous rainfall on these days. Areas at risk include Dungarpur, Banswara, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Kota, Bundi, and Baran. Monsoon showers will reach the westernmost parts of the state by 26th August and remain active through 28th August. The largest spread of rainfall across the state is expected on 26th and 27th August, when most regions will witness moderate to heavy rain. Weather conditions are likely to ease across Rajasthan after 28th August 2025.
