Three digit rains lash Mumbai after long, more showers ahead

September 8, 2023 4:25 PM |

The city of Mumbai has finally after a very long time seen 111 mm of rain, the first three digit rains in almost two months. The last time the city saw intense showers was in the month of July. After that very little rain was seen.

The month of August was far below normal, with the first half remaining dry. The third week of the month saw some rain. In fact, the last 3 digit rains were observed between 18 and 28th of July. A double hundred rain episode was also seen one of the days.

The first week of September hardly saw any rain before yesterday's spell. The total for this month stands at 121.3 mm so far with September's monthly normal remaining at 383.5 mm.

Now, the city of Mumbai may see more rain in view of the remnant of the Low Pressure Area which is stationed as a Cyclonic Circulation over East Madhya Pradesh region. Along with this, the east-west-oriented shear zone of the system is also running very close to Mumbai. The convergence zone has also formed in close proximity.

Therefore, we can expect moderate to heavy rains today in Mumbai with a slight reduction tomorrow but even then some heavy showers cannot be ruled out. After that rains may reduce gradually slowing down each day.
